This will be SHPE UMN’s sixth year at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities since being re-established in the fall of 2009. SHPE UMN hosted an RLDC during the first year it was active. Membership has improved significantly since the inception of SHPE UMN; we went from seven members in 2009 to about thirty+ members in 2012. We have continued to be involved with our college by hosting a Student Organization Fair every semester since 2009. This allowed for other student groups get exposure to our organization and encourage collaboration on future event together. We have received an award for “Outstanding Community Involvement” for our student organization fair from the College of Science and Engineering. We partner on many workshops with other groups such as NSBE, NSSA, SASE and AISES. 

                  In 2012 year we set a personal chapter record of sending 22 students to the SHPE National Conference. In the past few years, local professional chapters were established in the Twin Cities and have reached out to us. We have partnered with them on events such as Noche De Ciencias and a student science fair for high school Hispanic students in the area. We have also started the MentorSHPE program with the professional chapters to help us with our career paths SHPE UMN continues to develop its members professionally, academically, and through community service to turn them into leaders of tomorrow.
